Loving Life

Happy Monday!

I’ve got to start off by admitting that it is still confusing to me that it is already Thanksgiving week. Wasn’t it just summer? If I didn’t love Thanksgiving so much, I’d be mad at it for sneaking up on me this year.  For this special holiday week, I thought I should go over my favorite parts of Thanksgiving, including the games we play after we eat.

Pie Night – This is a tradition I think everyone should start! On Wednesday evening, the girls get together at my aunt’s house to prep for Thursday together. We don our aprons and tackle all the pies, peel a million potatoes, and make the stuffing. As you can see from this photo of me and Gram, it’s A LOT of stuffing. And so good.

Games – Outside of the actual eating, which I’m sure is on everyone’s list of favorite things, we also have a blast playing games. We are a family with a STRONG competitive gene, so game time is usually quite entertaining to watch. Smack talk is welcome, and occasionally people get pushed right out of chairs. PS: I pulled the game images from Amazon. They are affiliate links but that had no bearing on me picking them. I picked them because they are AWESOME. And I am AWESOME at them. Not that I’m competitive or anything.

Catch Phrase – We can’t figure out why they added Scrabble branding to this game for the latest version, because it has zero to do with Scrabble, but it’s fun anyways! You sit in a circle and every other person is on a team. The starting player has to get their team to guess the word that pops up on the screen, then he/she passes the game to the next person once the team gets it right. The whole time, a beeper is going faster and faster. The team that has the game in hand when the buzzer goes off loses the point. Everything about this is fun!

Pit – This game is chaos. Pretty much imagine the movie scenes with the floor of the stock exchange and everyone screaming at once and you’ve got Pit. But it’s way easier to understand than stocks!

Tapple – This is a newer discovery for us, but we played with my in laws and everyone was cracking up. You draw a card that says something like “actors” and then have to go around one at a time coming up with an actor’s name that starts with a letter than hasn’t been used yet. It’s simple and difficult all at the same time because you have a very short amount of time for each turn. I love this one because it can be played with two people or as many as can fit around the table.

Now I need to know about your favorite games so we can add them to our collection!!!

Have you heard of Heads Up? It is an app we use on my ipad for parties. It is always a hoot! What fun traditions you have with your family! Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

We’ve never tried that one, but need to!

We play several games – Monopoly Deal, Fluxx, Farkle, but the latest is Right Left Center. It’s a blast – even my 83 year old mother-in-law and aunt get the biggest charge out playing.

OH I forgot about Farkle! That is a great one. I’ll definitely look up Right Left Center, we’ve got all ages!
