It’s guest post day again! Today, I want to introduce you to Shelly from Dolen Diaries. Several months ago, I was checking out Shelly’s blog and realized we have some random things in common – like total crushes on Jared Leto circa My So Called Life. Last month, I got to meet her in real life at the SNAP Conference and she was just as fun as I expected. And one of the most compassionate people I’ve ever met!

Here she is with a tutorial for some AMAZING & easy paper flowers.

Hello A Prudent Life readers! I’m Shelly from Dolen Diaries where I blog DIY projects, crafts, & kid’s crafts. I actually had the opportunity to meet Melissa last month at SNAP! and let me tell you, she’s SUPER fun! I can’t wait to see her again next year!! Today I’m going to share how to make some beautiful paper flowers!

You’ll need at least 3 circles of cardstock {I used 4 for a fuller look} in graduating sizes and one small oval. I used a variety of round household items to get my circle sizes. They DO NOT need to be perfect circles! A little wonkiness adds character to your flower.

Draw some dips around the circles with a pen or pencil. *Remember they do not need to all be the same!

Cut out the dips to create petals. On the oval add a little style to both ends but leave the sides alone.

Next add dimension to the petals by rolling them around a pen or bamboo skewer.

After all the petals are curled put a dab of glue in the center of the largest flower for the next size down to be stacked on. *Notice how the cardstock is blue all the way through even on the edges? This is BEST for paper flowers!! You can test to see if your cardstock is colored throughout by looking at the edges of a stack of it.

Repeat this largest to smallest stacking until you have all the layers of the flower glued together. Add a jewel or button to create a center for your flower. Now you have a perfect paper flower to get crafty with! These are perfect in lieu of a bow on a package; add to a paper loop to create a napkin holder; create an indoor spring wreath; the possibilities are endless!!

Thanks SO much for letting me share my paper flowers with you! I’d love to have you all pop by Dolen Diaries to see my latest projects!
